Towards the end of the year, for 10 weeks each Friday afternoon Office John Rakestraw made his way to the 5th grade classroom, with Daren the lion in hand, to teach the lessons of D.A.R.E. Students went through 10 lessons that taught about decision making, saying no under pressure, and being a friend to others. They were able to discuss different situations that may arise and act out the best plan of action in each scenario. It was eye opening for many and a great lesson for all! After the 10 weeks, 5th graders were tasked with the challenge of writing a paper that encapsulated their learning experience through this process. They had to write a 5 paragraph essay telling what they have learned and how they will use it in the future. Last week, Office John awarded 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners as well as congratulated the rest of the class on "graduating" D.A.R.E. Each student received a certificate, a D.A.R.E coin, and of course, a small version of Daren to be a reminder of all they learned each time the see him!
Congratulations to our winners:
1st Place - Elijah
2nd Place - Audrey
3rd Place - Hailey
