For the first time, Shell Knob School hosted a twelve team Math/Science Scholar Bowl. The event was organized by math teacher and scholar bowl Coach Max Schumann. This is Mr. Schumann's 15th year as coach. In the fall, Mr. Schumann sent out invitations to area schools to come and compete. The farthest schools were from Skyline and Mt. Grove.
For the event, Mr. Schumann wrote the math questions and SKS science teacher Millie TK wrote the science questions. All of the competing teams were given specific topics within the math and science genre to study in preparation for the tournament. Hosting an event this size takes cooperation from everyone. There were many teachers who filled in as readers, scorers and proctors.
First place went to a Mt Grove team. Shell Knob had two teams of mixed grades. One SK team took 5th place, just a few points shy of a trophy and the other SK team took 12th. Both teams voted on their most valuable player and there were 3 standouts: 8th grader Dylan Peoples, 6th grader Hailey Walker and 8th grader Zayla Snow. Coach Schumann commented, “ I am very proud of how hard our teams competed.I had several coaches compliment our school and share that they thought everything ran incredibly smoothly. It makes me proud to be a Charger!”
