Shell Knob students and staff hosted a breakfast and an assembly for area Veterans on Veterans Day. Breakfast consisted of all sorts of sweets and eggs, sausage, biscuits all made by the staff. After the breakfast, David Atkinson and Dennis Page, Veterans from the Shell Knob VFW Post 2203 presented the colors and led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.. Students entered a writing competition called the Patriots Pen and Mr. Atkinson presented the top three awards. The essay had to include American history, today's society norms and their view of an annual patriotic theme. Each place winner was awarded a certificate and a monetary gift. First place went to Khale Holman, 2nd went to Nolan Armstrong and 3rd went to Wyatt Carpenter.
The assembly ended with recognition of the Veterans and students and staff were given the opportunity to express their gratitude for the Veterans sacrifices. The students and staff are especially proud of Veteran Duke Denton, School Nurse and Veteran John Rakestraw, School Resource Officer.
