The Shell Knob branch of the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library came to SKS Summer School each week for a great program presentation. The program this summer is "Color Your World" promoting reading and creativity. The first week's presentation was magician, Marty Hahne. He wowed the students with magic tricks and made sure he emphasized how important reading is to learn how to become a magician. The second week, the students saw animals from the Dickerson Park Zoo. This is always a favorite visit. This year, the zookeeper's brought an owl, a snake and a rabbit for the students to see. They also emphasized how important reading is to learn about animal lives, habitats, and the care of animals. The last week of summer school, the students met Author Sherry Krehbiel. She wrote a children's book entitled First Comes a Butterfly. Her presentation included her book, a habitat with caterpillars, and a habitat with recently laid eggs. It was very interesting to see the progression of the butterfly life cycle with live examples.
SKS is fortunate to have a library that supports the students and staff. Be sure to check out the summer program and see everything the library has to offer.
