fire truck

This week has been jam packed with exciting things for Shell Knob students.  The Access Family Care Mobile Dental Unit came to school to assist our students in their dental needs.  This is an incredible program that is completely free to our students.  They did a routine doctors exam, cleaning and took x rays.  Then they followed up with the parents, recommending any procedures the student might need.  The AFC staff were Dr. Kala Smith DMD, Jen Walkinshaw RDH, and Kaylee Carpenter DA.

This week also happened to be the national Fire Prevention Week, "Cooking safety starts with YOU!"  This year's campaign focused on little, but important things everyone can do to help make cooking a safe and enjoyable experience.  Central Crossing Fire Protection brought 2 trucks to school.  The students were able to climb in the trucks and see the tools and hoses the firefighters use.  The firefighters also spoke with the students, answering questions and educating them on fire safety tips.

One retired Fireman who visited school was Fred Swihart. Mr. Swihart has his own fire truck (white one pictured below)!  Owning their own fire truck is a dream of some of our students!  This truck is part of a rescue organization "503 American EMS History."   Mr. Swihart travels around to regional conventions and helps educate the attendees on our history of rescue equipment.

Who doesn't love a book fair?   The annual fall Scholastic book fair has been set up at school all week.  Students were able to purchase new books and parents could even set up an ewallet with funds uploaded to it so the kids wouldn't have to bring money to school.  Book fairs are one of our students favorite activities!
